While lab centrifuges have long been a lab standard, we frequently find that people still have a  lot of questions about which centrifuge model will be the right fit for their needs. This is hardly surprising given the sheer number of lab centrifuge options available in the market today.

Tips for Selecting a Centrifuge

1.RPMs are important, but G-Force is even better.

 You need to know what the rotation speed requirement is for the samples you are going to separate. 2000r/min, 13000r/min,Or between 3000r/min to 6000r/min.Traditionally, RPMs have been used as the main selection criteria when it comes time to choose a centrifuge. And while this information is helpful, it doesn’t always tell the whole story. To ensure the right centrifuge selection, take into account the G-Force your samples will require. This data, which provides a more precise account of your needs, will help you choose a centrifuge that’s the best fit for your lab. 

2.The max capacity.

How many tubes or jars you need to separate one time, meanwhile how many milliliters or liters in each tube or jar? Angle-fixed rotor or swing rotor? There are also many adapters with different capacity available. That is very important for the selection of the samples. For example, we need the blood bags centrifuge, we have to figure out that the rotor cups should be lager than the blood bags.

3. Flexibility Very rarely have we seen a lab where one size fits all, meaning your laboratory mates will use your centrifuge, or that your workflow today won’t be the same as your workflow in the future. Take time to identify centrifuge options with the added flexibility of a wide range of rotors that are also very easy to switch out, and enjoy the freedom of variety when it comes to what that centrifuge can accept when it comes to tube sizes. 

3.Ventilated or refrigerated.

Normally there is specific requirement about the temperature at which the samples should be separated. Most of time, we need the refrigerated centrifuge to make sure the samples in a common temperature. That will make the sample in a stable situation.

4.User friendly interface . 

The touch buttons and function selection should be easier for the operator. We prefer to the buttons function selection. Be careful about the touch screen if you need ware the gloves when you work.

5.Centrifuge Dimension

Where you are gonna place the centrifuge. This will affect your choice on the size of the centrifuge. Tabletop or floor type. All the bells and whistles won’t  help you if you don’t have the floor space to handle a floor model centrifuge. The good news is there are plenty of bench top options available today that can provide you with a lot of speed and power, without taking up too much space in the lab.

In addition to these four important aspects, there are also some other factors that should be considered. For example, the relative centrifugal force(RCF), speed and temperature accuracy(if they matter), noise level, the material quality, the factory strength, certifications, etc.
